Our Mission
Connect people to the beauty of nature through art.
Our Story
Inspired by Bob Ross and Maine's natural beauty, Laconica was born from the decision to embrace a healthier, more intentional lifestyle, trading old habits for the calming rhythm of painting.
Meet The Artist
Sonia Jones
Hi, I’m Sonia — an artist and designer from Freeport, Maine. Growing up here, I spent a lot of time exploring with my family. Almost every weekend of my childhood, we were either heading up to Isle au Haut or Sugarloaf Mountain, depending on the season. I’ve spent countless hours by the ocean, lakes, and in the woods, just taking it all in. I didn’t know then that those scenic memories would eventually become the foundation of my art.
After graduating from Freeport High School, I went to CMCC and earned associate degrees in Graphic Design and Business Administration & Management. From there, I worked in retail, then as a screen printer, graphic designer, and e-commerce manager.
I didn’t start painting until my late 20’s when I decided to stop drinking and embrace a healthier, more intentional lifestyle. In searching for new hobbies to fill my time, I came across the Bob Ross channel and thought, “I have to try that.”
Flash forward to today — I find myself out in nature more than ever, as a way to exercise, reset, become grounded, and find inspiration. And by doing so, I look around and notice all the things — things that make me want to capture them in a photo and take them home to put on canvas.
